Four Bajaj Hindustan sugar mills to go on stream soon

Mumbai: Sugar major Bajaj Hindusthan on Sunday said four of its sugar mills with a combined crushing capacity of 41,000 tonnes per day (TPD) will get operational well in time for the new sugar season.

The Bajaj Group company's three particle boards and MDF production facilities, all in Uttar Pradesh, will also get operational within the next one month, Chief Executive Officer Rakesh Bhartia told reporters here.

The four sugar mills entailed an investment of Rs 1,500 crore while the particle boards and MDF project, a recent diversification for the company, required an investment of Rs 300 crore. Once the sugar mills get operational, Bajaj Hindusthan's crushing capacity would increase to 1, 36,000 tonnes per day.

The particle boards and MDF would be produced at three facilities and their capacity would be 50,000 metric cubes and 1,60,000 metric cubes per annum, respectively. Going forward, Bajaj Hindusthan plans to focus on value-adds from its by-products. "We would like to see what value we can add to a by-product like molasses. Apart from ethanol, we would like to see what value-adds we can offer to the chemicals industry," Bhartia said. The company will be using a by-product - bagasse - obtained from its factories in the manufacture of particle boards and MDF, he said.
